Charles & Ron Fall/Winter Collection

The impressive ‘Sacra Infermeria’ Hall of the Mediterranean Conference Centre was the splendid backdrop to the highly anticipated launch of the So Hot So Cold collection from prolific designers Charles & Ron.  This year’s show certainly hasn’t disappointed.

What the fashion bloggers wrote:

The first section offered a classic show of 1930/40s inspired coats and capes that included puffed sleeves, military style, high necklines and more. Basically there was something for everyone – from the nostalgic 1930s vintage look to the modern elegance of satin ruffles and delicate feathers that hugged the neckline perfectly. Mostly with heavy fabrics such as wool and fur.

The second part of the show brought some more interesting textures such as silk, lace and see trough materials like chiffon. Something I particularly loved was the way they used the peplum style that is so much in trend right now – they made just half peplum and it gave an extra uniqueness to the outfit. We also saw lots of low cut backs, leather belts and diamond straps. They went from the traditional black gown to a trasgressive lacy see trough dress adding the fun the See customer is looking for.
We are all Divas

‘Taking it a step ahead’ is a phrase that hardly describes this collection. Charles and Ron did not only preserve the element of ‘contrast’ by pairing heavy outerwear with lightweight dresses, they also went as far as injecting contrast in the dresses themselves! Mixed colours, different lengths, combined textures, and very interestingly, a lack of symmetry: they all contributed to the feeling that ‘this shouldn’t be working, but it does.’ And how fabulous are those feather collars?

The warmth-inducing outerwear, fit for the coldest of climates, was then removed for a second round on the runway to reveal the dresses beneath. Claps from the audience ensued as the rich, lavishly embellished creations beneath were revealed. The jewellery by Viventy of 202 Jewellery was now revealed as fit for any elegant dress. The contrast is once again eminent as the contrasting loose coats are removed to reveal the figure-hugging pieces beneath. What was notable were the significant number of layers each dress was made of – lace, leather, satin, chiffon and the like.

An array of vintage inspired coats and capes wowed the audience. Blue, red and black were very prominent in the colour scheme together with grey, which featured in two pieces. Charles & Ron used several contrasting techniques whereby the inside of the coat or cape was lined with either a blue or red hue together with the cuffs in certain pieces. High necklines and feather details were prominent in some pieces.
All Things Fabulous

The styles and details of each garment were varied, for instance there was a black and red military styled coat with tiny buttons on the front and pleats from the waist down to give it a feminine touch; a minimal red cape coat with a sophisticated black feather collar; a black velvet cape with an electric blue floral detail on the shoulders; a flowing floor-length poncho style coat with a pretty bow detail at the collar; and an aristocratic-looking black polka-dot floor-length coat with a high stiff collar and dramatically detailed sleeves; to mention a few.
