Day 5 – Natan Micallef

Friday, June 2nd, 2017

Natan Micallef presented his first full collection in a very interesting presentation that took the models right up to the audience. The idea behind the collection is the concept of reality in contrast to the surreal scenarios created by us individuals. This contrast is brought to life in different ways.

There is a distinct use of multiple layers in each look often using different textures and fabrics in a somewhat surprising but effective manner. Deconstructed elements and the ‘undone’ approach are key elements within the collection as is a distinct presence of masculine silhouettes paired with intimate inspired garments.

Day 5 – Suzana Peric

Friday, June 2nd, 2017

Suzana Peric was this year’s designer from Serbia and she wowed us with her lovely collection. The collection is feminine and sweet with a lot of ruffles, ultra feminine features. Little details lend the pieces that extra chic feeling. Some of the dresses are very elegant affairs such as the ruffled orange dress designed to make every woman feel like a star. Also worth of a mention is the red off-the-shoulder jumpsuit that hugs the female silhouette perfectly. The touches of embroidery on some of the pieces are also another detail that really elevates some of these pieces.

Day 5 – Ritienne Zammit – I Love Valletta

Wednesday, May 31st, 2017

Ritienne Zammit was the last show of Malta Fashion Week 2017 and it was a fitting end to the week-long celebration of fashion in Malta. Ritienne presented a collection that strikes a cord with many fashion die-hards. As a designer, Ritienne is renowned for her eclectic work and her prints and she provided excellence in both these areas. However, in spite of her work being eclectic, the clothes are wearable, incorporating modern trends and features that makes them feel very fresh and relevant. Her wicked use of bright blue added a surprising jolt of pleasure to the pieces. The inspiration for the collection was Valetta, Malta’s capital city, Valletta is one of those places where there is something new to discover each time you visit, although small, the city holds so much character, so much history that inspiration is everywhere.  A highly interesting collection from a highly interesting uncompromising designer.

Day 3 – Gaetano – DIVAS

Thursday, May 25th, 2017

Gaetano’s new collection titled DIVAS was a celebration of femininity, a celebration of powerful, strong women who want to be seen and heard – no shrinking violets here. His inspiration was music and female singers. Divas such as Mariah Carey, Beyonce and Cher were all muses for the different pieces.

The pieces are very glamarous, fit for a showgirl, or the glitziest party of all. What was interesting was his combination of modern trends such as flared pants into his pieces, it made them feel fresher. The grand finale of the show was Claudia Faniello singing Breathless, one of Malta’s best divas.

He went for a clean styling approach even in terms of hair and makeup and the result was very effective.
