Meet the Malta Fashion Week & Awards Team

Tuesday, April 18th, 2017

Adrian J Mizzi – Founder & Executive Producer

  • The organiser and original mastermind of both Malta Fashion Week and Awards. Adrian’s inspiration to create this local event was initially greeted with a lot of incredulity, both in Malta and abroad. Against the odds, he persevered and today is proud to host one of the most-attended events in Malta. Each year his goal is to improve and in some way better the results of the previous year. He has also been involved in the production of most of Malta’s biggest events and launch parties both within and out of the fashion industry. His 25 years experience in event management is one of the contributing factors to the success of MFWA.

Julia Dominguez Moreno – Production & Administration

  • Julia is a recent addition to the team. Working full time and reporting directly to the Executive Producer makes her job quite a stressful one. Her flair and passion for event production and organisation along with her no-nonsense attitude and ability to take charge makes her a valuable addition. Julia will be responsible in assisting the Executive Producer in Logistics, Site Management  & Administration

Elaine Galea – Head of Hair Make-Up Department, Backstage Director, Models coordinator

  • Elaine is responsible for ensuring that all hair and makeup teams run smoothly and provide perfect results. This includes the actual building of the hair and makeup teams, ensuring that a team is in place for all the different shows and ensuring that the looks have been decided prior to the show. She is also responsible for supervising the operation of backstage as a whole. This includes timings in terms of model preparations and fittings and coordination of the selection of models between model agencies and designers for all shows.

Maria Micallef – Backstage Logistics Wardrobe Coordinator

  • Maria is responsible for handling all the backstage logistics, this includes booking all equipment required (ranging from make-up tables to hair stations to refreshments). Basically, all equipment required backstage is up to her to provide. Apart from this, she manages a team of people who are responsible for maintaining the designers’ wardrobes. This involves ensuring  that all dressing rooms are equipped properly and that designers will be assisted at all times.

Priscilla Sammut Preca – Sales Executive, Customer Relations, Front of House Coordinator

  • Priscilla’s job starts many months before Malta Fashion Week preparations begin. Priscilla is responsible for building relationships and forging new connections. Sponsorships are the bread and butter of any event and Malta Fashion Week and Awards is proud to have built long-lasting relationships that have spanned many years. Throughout Malta Fashion Week, Priscilla is then also responsible for managing the guest seating, welcoming guests and ensuring a smooth run.

Charmaine Cilia – Photography Exhibition Coordinator, Awards Nominations Department

  • Charmaine is responsible for coordinating the Photography Exhibition – this entails correspondence between all those requesting to participate, coordinating the selection panel and after selection ensuring that all photos are submitted in time and are of the desired quality. In terms of award nominations, this job involves being the main person between the Monitoring Board, the judges, the general public voting and the nominees. She is also responsible to collect all nominations both from judges and the public, chasing everyone for all necessary material required by the Monitoring Boards.

Caroline Paris – Digital Press, PR & Media Coordinator

  • Caroline has just started occupying this role, in 2017, she is now responsible for coordinating the digital marketing aspect and digital content for Malta Fashion Week and Awards. This includes supervising and maintaining the content on the website and all social media channels, writing press releases, creating digital adverts and coordinating with other digital media writers such as bloggers and journalists.

Kurt Paris – Media Photographers Coordinator

  • Kurt is another new addition to the team and his role involves coordinating the Media Photographers at the various shows. This includes conducting workshops, helping with submission guidelines and offering advice to whoever desires it.

Ritienne Zammit – Local Fashion Designers Coordinator

  • Ritienne Zammit is a designer herself, since she currently holds the post of Administrator for Local Designers within the Malta Fashion Association, she has also been assigned the role of spokesperson for all local designers at Malta Fashion Week. She is therefore, the link between the designers and the production team.

Antonio Muscat – Host for International Guests

  • Antonio will be responsible for welcoming and hosting our foreign delegation to Malta. This includes hosting them, coordinating their transport and in general, tending to all their fashion week related needs. He is tasked with making sure that all leave Malta with only good memories.

Gijs Van Den Reijen – Intern Student Event Management

  • Gijs is a student from The Netherlands. He applied for an internship in Event Management and was accepted. He has now been part of the team since January 2017, and was assigned to the department of the Executive Producer. He will definitely leave our rock having gained a lot of experience.

Marilena Galea – Campaign Marketing

  • Marilena forms part of the marketing team at JP Advertising who worked together to create this year’s campaign for the Malta Fashion Week and Awards. She works closely with the Malta Fashion Week team and is responsible for coordinating all advertising and marketing material pertaining to the weekly events and shows taking place.

The above mentioned are only the tip of the iceberg, there are plenty of other people involved but it is impossible to mention them all. Sufficient to say that the backstage and front of house crew amounts to 475 people.

Thanks to Kurt Paris for the photos.

Designer Peek – Maria Cutajar

Wednesday, April 12th, 2017

Throughout the months leading up to Malta Fashion Week, we will be shining the limelight on a few of our local designers who have been showcased over the last few years and we will be showing you an exclusive sneak peek into their upcoming collections.

Our sixth look is at Maria Cutajar with Boho Goddess.

A collection inspired by a bohemian lifestyle, a style to describe the marginalised and impoverished artist.

The main aim is to empower the inner beauty of a woman and to make her inner artist emerge in today’s world.

The collection is trans-seasonal – due to global warming effects we now need to keep our winter and summer clothes together in one wardrobe so as to be able to mix and match according to the current climate.

Designer Peek – Rosita

Throughout the months leading up to Malta Fashion Week, we will be shining the limelight on a few of our local designers who have been showcased over the last few years and we will be showing you an exclusive sneak peek into their upcoming collections.

Our fifth look is at Designer Rosita – her 2017 collection will present her ‘Serendipity’ Collection.

An obscure word perhaps but a most appropriate one (that stands for the pleasure of being pleasantly surprised whilst not expecting it).

Silk has been recognized as a superlative for beauty and elegance for millenia. Silk epitomizes natural beauty and femininity and feels great on one’s skin. It is a raw, white material; flowing wild and untamed in the wind. Rosita this year launches a new style of short and long 100% pure Silk Kaftans painted using mixed techniques of traditional  Japanese Shibori, Indonesian Batik and other techniques.

Our fourth look is at NILARA – Nilay Camilleri

‘Nilara’s collection delves into fashion’s darkest fantasies, rebellious and unconventional, `Unforgiven` is Nilara´s gothical poetry. ‘

The collection in essence…

Glamorous gothic inspiration with mysterious and luxurious details, a bit daring, a bit fierce, definitely brave with a flash of silky leg and sexy back, she glides into the darkness and still all remains ‘Unforgiven’…

“Inspired by the two-sided characteristics of ballerinas, and my personal passion.”

This collection reflects the beautiful paradox of elegance, poise, and beauty, with the strength and endurance of the practice.

This collection features pastel colours and ribbons with incorporated dark tones to create an edgy but elegant collection.

Throughout the next two months leading up to Malta Fashion Week, we will be shining the limelight on a few of our local designers who have been showcased over the last few years and we will be showing you an exclusive sneak peek into their upcoming collections.

Our second look is at Designer Gaetano Busuttil – his 2017 collection will be, in his own words inspired by DIVAS

20170326_183531

“Music has always been a big inspiration in my life”

When I hear the word “DIVA” the feelings that come to mind are:

  1. Power
  2. Glamour
  3. Attitude
  4. Demanding
  5. Showstopper
  6. Talent

These are all somewhat true attributes but the true definition of a musical diva is a successful, talented singer. This collection is a tribute to those female DIVAS such as Mariah Carey, Cher, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Beyonce etc. Looking up to them as a child, helped me see women from a different angle…

DIVA – Glamorous with attitude, powerful and talented – What other words can you use?

Our first look is at Designer Ritienne Zammit – her 2017 collection will be, in her own words

‘Expressing the love and appreciation towards our capital city Valletta’.

  • A fortress city built in 1566 and nicknamed as Superbissima means ‘the Most Proud’.
  • A peninsula full of magnificent architecture characteristics from the Baroque, Mannerism and Neo-classical periods.

‘There will come a time when every piece of land on Sciberras Hill will be worth its weight in gold’
