Collection: Charles & Ron “Siparju” Fall/Winter 2026/27 collection, a collection inspired by the timeless grandeur and layered cultural memory of Teatru Manoel. Taking its name from the Maltese word for theatre curtain, Siparju reflects the moment before a performance begins, the anticipation, mystery, and transformation that occur when the curtain rises. Continuing their tradition of developing original textiles, Charles & Ron introduce in-house designed graphic prints inspired by architectural and decorative elements of the theatre itself. Motifs reinterpret the ornate ceiling paintings, the iconic chandelier, the theatrical stage, hand-painted decorative details, and the graceful draping of the curtains, translating the spirit of the space into contemporary fashion.
The colour palette draws directly from the theatre’s opulent interior. Rich shades of baroque gold, warm browns, soft beige and green are contrasted with rust tones and deep reds reminiscent of velvet curtains, alongside touches of black, echoing the dramatic atmosphere of the stage and the intimacy of the auditorium.A carefully curated selection of fabrics enhances this theatrical vision. Ethereal organza and flowing chiffon create movement and lightness, while sumptuous velvet, faux fur and structured wool introduce depth and warmth for the winter season. Many pieces are enriched with delicate beading and small paillets, adding subtle luminosity that reflects the glow of stage lights and chandeliers.
Designer: Charles van Maarschalkerweerd Borg ( born 29-10-68) attributes his passionate creativity to his Maltese blood. He is a self-taught Couture maker and comes from a long line of seamstresses - his aunties and his grandma. He met Ron van Maarschalkerweerd Borg (born 13-09-71) in Amsterdam in 1992. They bonded over many mutual interests and Ron came to visit Malta, loved it and never left. They have now been partners for 35 years, and together turned Charles & Ron into Malta’s leading fashion brand.
Their signature style draws inspiration from the archipelago, with Mediterranean motifs, colours and stories featuring in all their collections. Their work is brushed with a 1990’s fashion sensibility when it comes to design, yet is timeless and effortlessly commercial. The collections are regularly featured in international magazines, many Hollywood music videos and red carpets. Charles & Ron’s designs truly have an international appeal as they have recently been seen on international celebs like; Leona lewis, Ariane Grande, Alessandra Ambrosio, Carrie Underwood, Paula Abdul, Jessie J., Fireboy, Chloe Bailey, the cast from Bling Empire, the cast from Never Have I Ever, Brigitte Nielsen, Kelly Rowland, Brandy, Lauryn Hill, Michelle Williams (Destiny’s Child), Ashanti, Tinashe and many others. Despite their global renown and a love for Los Angeles, Malta is still the base for Charles & Ron. They are deeply in love with the mediterranean lifestyle and spontaneous informality of island life.
