Collection: Maltese fashion house Charles & Ron proudly presents their Spring/Summer 2025 collection, Beneath the Waves, a celebration of the vibrant underwater world that surrounds the Maltese Islands, particularly the stunning waters of Gozo.Drawing inspiration from the Mediterranean’s captivating marine life, the collection showcases the designers’ deep connection to their local environment.Inspired by the breathtaking underwater photography of diver and photographer Eva Bast, Beneath the Waves features a stunning array of colourful graphic prints that highlight the magnificence of Gozo’s underwater ecosystem.
Eva’s unique lens captures a hidden world filled with graceful underwater creatures, vibrant coral, and schools of shimmering fish and jellyfish, which have been digitally manipulated into intricate designs that bring the mystery and beauty of the ocean to life.“We’ve always found Malta and Gozo to be a constant source of inspiration, and this season we wanted to delve deeper into the world beneath the waves,” says Charles & Ron. “In a world that feels increasingly chaotic, the calm and serenity of the underwater world offers an escape—one that must be preserved and cherished.”The collection’s silhouettes mirror the flowing movements of the ocean, with delicate chiffon, organza, and silk fabrics lending a sense of fluidity to dresses that seem to sway like the sea itself.
The soft, ethereal textures of hand-beaded tulle and organic cotton add richness and depth, while vibrant prints highlight the beauty of the Mediterranean marine life.The colour palette draws directly from the hues of the sea, with shades of turquoise, blue lagoon, sky blue, and coral, contrasted by bursts of red, purple and white, creating a harmonious blend of colours that evoke the underwater world.

Charles van Maarschalkerweerd Borg (born 29-10-68) attributes his passionate creativity to his Maltese blood. He is a self-taught Couture maker and comes from a long line of seamstresses - his aunties and his grandma. He met Ron van Maarschalkerweerd Borg (born 13-09-71) in Amsterdam in 1992. They bonded over many mutual interests and Ron came to visit Malta, loved it and never left.
They have now been partners for 30 years, and together turned Charles & Ron into Malta’s leading fashion brand. Their signature style draws inspiration from the archipelago, with Mediterranean motifs, colours and stories featuring in all their collections. Their work is brushed with a 1990’s fashion sensibility when it comes to design, yet is timeless and effortlessly commercial.
The collections are regularly featured in international magazines, many Hollywood music videos and red carpets. Charles & Ron’s designs truly have an international appeal as they have recently been seen on international celebs like; Ariane Grande, Alessandra Ambrosio, Carrie Underwood, Paula Abdul, Jessie J., Fireboy, Chloe Bailey, the cast from Bling Empire, the cast from Never Have I Ever, Brigitte Nielsen, Kelly Rowland, Brandy, Lauryn Hill, Michelle Williams (Destiny’s Child), Ashanti, Tinashe and many others.
