Highlights About MFWA

Walking into a shoe exhibition had my mind asking questions. I’ve been to quite a number of exhibitions but a shoe exhibition was a first for me. As I followed the crowd into an outdoor space atop Fort St Angelo, I saw a long table of Aldo shoes and wine glasses in guests’ hands and I got excited.

<span style="font-weight 400">After years of hard work, dedication, and multi-tasking with an adorable child and a luxury line of jewelry on her plate, designer <strong>Sam Selby</strong> successfully  launched <em>The Sirena Collection</em> at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Malta 2016.

Inspired by the fragile and short-lived nature of a flower, artist <strong>Saz Mifsud</strong> uses the permanence of a print to capture and freeze a flower’s beauty in her latest collection, <i>Pollen’s Poetry</i>.

As I lay in bed awake late at night, it is quite appropriate that I am writing about <strong>Nilara</strong>’s latest collection, <em>Insomnia</em>. It’s dark and energizing, like the coffee sitting beside me.

Elegant tailoring with Avant Garde shapes and a collage of textures is the defining aesthetic of the <em>Hunter Collection</em>. Garments in varying styles and cuts created a well coordinated compilation of dresses, jumpsuits, and separates.

Timeless as Saville Row with modern cuts and tailoring, <strong>Gagliardi</strong> presented its sleek 2016 collection. Combining Baroque and Nautical elements, this line was inspired by the heavily ornate Mediterranean and the florid island that we live on.

True to her roots, Maltese fashion designer Ritienne Zammit, has summoned some of the largest applause in Malta Fashion Week history. Her designs, famously unconventional and historically inspirational, have won the hearts of the Maltese community.

With the attention set on the curvier figure, Lilly Mae emphasizes elegance and comfort. Comfortably tailored clothing, loose and flirty fits, free flowing silhouettes, and luxurious fabrics all characterize the clothing by designers,  Marina Rinaldi, Basler, and Elena Mirò - all sold at Lilly Mae.

Designer Natasha Meli’s line of dresses, skirts, swimwear, and coverups is a Vivienne Westwood meets Bestey Johnson mashup of attitude, sequins, and pretty punk princess.

"Intune" by Claudia Goagara, presented the "Interlude" collection this week at MFWA16. A chic and elegant line of cocktail and evening dresses, “Interlude” is the first collection to be showcased under this new brand.

From the artistic creations of twelve upcoming designers, to the timeless elegance of Gagliardi, the sophistication of Caroline Hili, Charles &amp; Ron and Tiffany Pisani's creations, this year’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Malta brings you no less than 28 labels and brands to experience and admire on the catwalk.

Silk painter, Rosita presented her collection Joie de Vivre at MFWA16 this week. Hailing from Lithuania, Rosita is now living in Malta and using her creativity to express her inspirations through hand painted silk and satin scarves and apparel.
